Costume Contest Rules:

Categories:

College Budget: Also known as best costume for least amount of money. Go Green!  We will consider the incorporation of recyclable items while judging.

Individual: Best costume an individual can put together.

Group: Two or more people. This can include couple costumes. Each group members' costume should reflect the same amount of effort as the rest of the group and the costumes should be well coordinated.

Entering the Contest:

To enter the costume contest, sign up by the UAB Marketing Table. You must choose one category: Best Individual, Best Group (two or more people), or Best Costume on a College Budget. After you sign up, a UAB volunteer will take a picture of you or your group in your costume to judge. You will be judged by a panel of UAB volunteers based on overall impression of your costume. The winner of each category will be announced at the end of the night, and the winners will receive prize baskets (must be present at the end of the night to win).

All costumes will be judged on the following:

Originality and Creativity- At least half of the costume should be created from materials other than a commerically available Hallowwen costume. Store bought accessories, makeup, masks, hats, components, etc. are acceptable.

Effort- How much work was put into the costume.

Execution- How well the costume idea was translated into a real costume.

The same person in the same costume cannot win in mutiple categories. We want to spread the wealth so you can only submit one entry into one category.

YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.

Please keep in mind you are representing yourself and to keep costumes appropriate. UAB has the right to refuse you entry into the costume contest if necessary.

In case of a tie, UAB staff will cast a vote to break the tie.

Costume Appropriateness:

UAB respects the cultural heritage of each community we encounter. Any costumes deemed culturally insensitive will not be considered for the costume contest. Please check out the following resources on costumes and cultural appropriation:
